Welbeck failed to score the necessary four runs needed for victory off the final ball as they had to settle for a losing draw at home to Hucknall in the Mansfield & District League on Sunday.

Chasing 161, Welbeck finished up fractionally short on 158-9 as the overs ran out.

Eckington’s R. Cartright struck 88 as they made 241-9 before Cartright (4.13) and A. Leonard (6-49) saw off Anston for 125 for a 166-run win.

Kirkby Portland enjoyed their first Section One win of the season as they beat Mansfield Hosiery Mills by five wickets.

Matthew New scored an unbeaten 99 for Mills in their 187-7, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Coal Aston (237-6) beat Frecheville (74) by 163 runs, the pick of the performances going to Coal Aston’s D. Rogers, scoring 64 not out and taking 4-11 with the ball.

Grassmoor (300-6) continue to do well with a winning draw at Denby (159-6). Top scorer for Grassmoor was Chris Fletcher with 154.

In Section Two Blackwell (97-2) recorded their first win of the season, beating Creswell (94) by eight wickets, Steve Bunning (4-14) the main wicket taker for Blackwell.

Morton (176-) kept up their perfect start to the season by beating Coal Aston (175) by four wickets, Morton’s D. Matthews (5-16 and 78 not out) doing most of the damage.

A high-scoring Section Three game at Ockbrook & Borrowash saw S. Rey fire 155 not out in a fine 331-5 total. But Welbeck replies with 237-7 for a losing draw.

Byron Abbey chalked up a convincing 173-run win over local rivals Papplewick & Linby in Section Four. Abbey made 203-7 before C. Cooke’s 6-12 helped see them home.

Waleswood made 219-9 but didn’t need anywhere near that total as Mohammed Rafique’s 7-6 saw Sherwood fall apart to 21 all out.

Ordsall Bridon’s fine start to the Section Five season came to an abrupt end as they failed to raise a team to take on Pheasant Hill and were penalised 25 points.

B. Kapala scored an unbeaten 58 as Wednesday reached 189-8 against Sheffield Transport. Then he took 5-4 while A. Naseby claimed 3-5 as Transport were all out for 41.

Chasing Langwith’s 195-6 in Section Six (D. Humber 68), Swanwick could only manage a losing draw as they ended up on 179-5.

Bawtry (156-8) beat Clowne (155-9) by two wickets with T. Haslam man of the match with 3-27 and 40.

Grassmoor kept up their winning ways in Section Seven with a seven-wicket win against Sheffield Transport. A. Ward made an unbeaten half-century as Grassmoor reached 147-3 before bowling out their opponents for 139.
