Rockware overcome poor battling display to beat Bawtry

Rockware continued to put pressure on the top two in Division Six with victory away to Bawtry, despite a below par batting performance.

Asked to bat first by the hosts, Rockware could only manage 130 before being bowled out in the 29 over.

Top scorers for the Glass were captain, Carl Lake (36) and Greg Atherton (29). The only other player to reach double figures was Tommy Hopkinson (15).

Pick of the bowlers for Bawtry was Will Roberts, with 4-19 from 8.5 overs.

What should have been a comfortable run chase began well for Bawtry as they reached 30-0 in a short space of time.

But Rockware’s battling spirit came alive again when opening bowler Kyle Wesley removed opening pair Saynor and McCarthey.

Wickets began to fall regularly after this and only a rain delay threatened to de-rail Rockwares victory.

Some committed fielding and tight bowling from Lake (4-17) Andy Bell (3-19) and Dave Wesley (1-16) saw Bawtry dismissed for 87 in the 31st over.
