Worksop Rugby Club’s first team were beaten at Stubbing Lane on Saturday by Belper.
The Midlands East North Four clash ended 27-17 to the visitors.
The Worksop side had numerous changes due to unavailability of players.
Belper started stronger, and had an early try disallowed after a period of sustained pressure.
This pressure continued causing Worksop to infringe at a ruck, and after a break by a Belper player an overlap was created and a try was scored in the corner and converted.
Both sides continued to play with pace, but poor handling lead to numerous early scrummages, before flanker Nick Kay powered over in the corner.
The visitors hit back, scoring with an overlap again in the corner.
After the restart Belper continued to scrummage strongly and win the ball against the head and kick deep into Worksop’s half.
The visitors are awarded a penalty in kickable range which they converted and the half-time score was 5-17.
After the break Bainbridge found captain Williams who reached over to score, converted by Waddell.
The next try came from a strong break by Belper, and the kicker converted, and Belper then scored again from a ruck with some poor tackling from Worksop.
In the final phase Williams made a good break and managed an offload to scrum-half McGuire who scored the final try.
