Last weekend a number of Retford and District Wheelers participated in the annual Tommy Simpson reliability ride.

The Dinnington Racing Team organised event started and finished in Harworth, completing a 55-mile circuit of the Isle of Axholme.

It’s held in memory of Harworth’s former world champion Simpson, and raises money towards the maintenance of his memorial at the roadside of Mount Ventoux in France.

Meanwhile the Wheelers Strava League saw a number of changes on the leaderboard.

Worksop’s Glen Allison was top man this week with 174.0 miles followed by Tony Siveter with 159 and another Worksop rider, Peter Smith covering 133.4 miles.

Other rides of merit were K. Dumbleton 109.7, A. Coop-Mann 92.9, J. Walker 76.8, R. Pennington 61.9 and L. Storey 49.3 miles.

The club run this Sunday is to Messingham, the route will be flat and the distance between 55 and 65 miles depending on which group is chosen.

Both groups are to meet in Retford market square at 9.30am.
