Worksop’s Lee Westwood is in a three-way share of the lead at the US PGA Championship – the final major title of the year.
The 41-year-old is out to collect his first ever major title, and seal an automatic qualification for this year’s Ryder Cup.
He shot a six-under-par round of 65 to share the lead with America’s Kevin Chappell and Ryan Palmer – a shot ahead of in-form Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.
Westwood hinted there was more to come from him, and pointed to the 63 he shot last Sunday in Ohio as a confidence boost for his major bid.
He said: “I’ve played better rounds of golf but I was really pleased with today.”
“I’ve started to feel like my swing was coming around.”
“That 63 obviously gave me some confidence coming into this week.”
