Lee Westwood finished in fourth place at last week’s WGC Accenture Match Play event at Dove Mountain in Arizona, USA.
The tough format saw the Worksop golfer play six rounds in five days in his best ever finish in this tournament.
In round one he played excellent golf to beat Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium by 3&1, he then faced Robert Karlsson of Sweden and won by a margin of 3&2. US Ryder Cup player Nick Watney was Lee’s next opponent and again victory was his by 3&2.
Into the quarter finals, and Lee faced Martin Laird of Scotland. He went into an early lead and went on to a convincing 4&2 victory. The semi-final saw Lee up against Rory McIlroy. Lee raced into a three hole lead after just four holes but the Irishman bounced back with an amazing six birdies in eight holes and went on to a 3&1 win.
The 3rd and 4th place match saw Lee lose to American Mark Wilson on the final hole.
The next event for Lee is the WGC Cadillac Championship in Miami, Florida, starting on Thursday.
