Over 30 bowls players battled it out in memory of a stalwart member of Welbeck Abbey Bowls Club on Sunday.

Arthur’s Shield is played in honour of Arthur Zillwood, who was a valued member of the club until his death seven years ago.

His widow Marjory was on hand to thank the bowlers for turning out in such numbers, and to present the shield to winner John Bishop.

The club chairman has begun the season in fine form, with two trophies already on his mantlepiece.

Refreshments followed, supplied by Kath Goodwin.

Welbeck took a team of players to Tuxford last week for an enjoyable evening match that finished in a draw.

The club has a new website where you can keep up to date with all the latest information and events.

And although membership numbers are almost full, you can still contact Maureen on 01909 477744 with enquiries, or visit www.welbeckabbeybowlsclub.co.uk to go on the waiting list.
