THE story of cycling legend Tommy Simpson could be made into a film, by acclaimed Notts director Shane Meadows.
The man behind ‘This is England’ and ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ admitted he would like to tell the Harworth man’s ‘legendary’ tale.
“He is a Nottingham guy and it is just one of those legendary stories that feels like a Hollywood movie script, though I would not treat it like that,” said Meadows.
Simpson, who is honoured each year by a cycle race held in Harworth in his name, collapsed and died during the Tour de France in 1967.
Meadows is yet to acquire the film rights to Simpson’s life, but added: “I just think it is a great story.”
