An up and coming professional boxing star interrupted his training camp for a big international bout to present the awards at a Worksop club.

Adam ‘the Bomber’ Etches is deep in training for a fight with Russian Sergey Khomitsky, on the Kell Brook undercard on 28th March.

But he still found time to hand out the rewards for Worksop youngsters at the latest X Box Boxing Academy awards ceremony.

X Box, which has recently been licensed as a professional outfit that can provide fighters for the paid ranks, runs award schemes that count towards GCSE qualifications.

And Etches is always impressed by what he sees at the Claylands Industrial Estate venue.

“I’m always happy to come back to X Box Boxing Academy and present the next generation of youngsters with these awards ,” he said.

“As you can see this is a packed club where Chris, who I know very well, is doing great work along with his coaches giving kids positive steps forward, not only with boxing but also with life.”

“Well done to everyone involved.”

Etches also dished out the X Box Rising Star awards to a number of girls who have impressed their coaches recently.

X Box offer girls only classes, as well as fitness training along with the usual boxing technique and sparring sessions.

In a busy few weeks for the boxing club, they raised £52 for Comic Relief with a ‘tyre run’ – young boxers transporting tyres in a gruelling training session.

And on 28th March at 10am they’ll be in fundraising action again, with a sponsored ‘punchathon’ event.

Pugilists will have to take turns and play their part in three hours of non stop punching to raise money for Cancer Research.

Next month will bring the latest in the club’s amateur fight nights, at Stanley Street Sports and Social Club.

The boxing show will take place on Thursday 30th April, with doors opening at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the fight night will cost £15 for adults, £10 for children and Under 5s will go free.

These evenings often showcase the talent X Box Chris Boyle and his coaches are producing in their weekly training sessions.
