Poor discipline and tackling brings Mosborough defeat for Dinnington III

A promising first half performance turned into a nightmare for Dinnington Rugby Club III, as ill-discipline and poor tackling led to a 30-5 defeat by Mosborough II.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the opening forty minutes.

Mosborough were on top in the scrums for the first quarter of an hour but Dinnington did enough to stop them turning it to their advantage.

When Dinnington did eventually get some good possession they moved it out to the backs who caused the home defence problems.

Twenty minutes into the game, Dinnington won a penalty just outside the home twenty-two and Scott Houghton caught Mosborough out with a quick tap which gave him enough of an advantage to get to the line.

The game then became concentrated in mid-field and Dinnington looked like hanging onto their advantage to the break.

However, with the last play of the half, Mosborough turned the ball over at a scrum close to the Dinnington line and drove over to level the scores.

Ill-discipline from Dinnington at the start of the second half gave Mosborough an impetus that they would not relinquish.

Dinnington conceded far too many penalties and had a player sin-binned.

Mosborough kicked two penalties to open up a lead and then took advantage of errors to score three more tries in the second period.

Dinnington did have moments on attack but every time they got into the home half an error gave possession away and Mosborough were able to clear the danger.

The club are hosting their own version of ‘Im a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ on Saturday night, at their Lodge Lane base.
