WORKSOP Hockey Club old boys returned to face the current crop of players, and held them to a 1-1 draw in the annual friendly match on Saturday.
There was a strong turnout of former players, including the two Keaton brothers Chris and James; Geoff Walker Snr who was playing against his son Geoff Walker Jnr; Phil Gawthorpe, Gary Bell and Simon Challendar who are still associated with the club; Fred Walters who was also playing against his son in the first XI side; Andy Kyle, Craig Mosby, Mark Paulson, David Griffin and Glyn Fowler.
The afternoon was split into three half hour games but the hockey was of a secondary importance.
The first half hour saw the old boys playing the current first XI side, and the game finished 1-1.
The second game saw a rearrangement of the teams so that a Worksop II XI could face an old boys and first XI mixed side.
This game finished in a victory for the Old Boys.
The final half hour was a reversion back to the Old Boys versus the first XI, but legs were tiring and youth eventually was the winner over experience.
The day was capped off by a visit to the Station Hotel in order to rest tired limbs and relieve the stress of having to again run around on a very warm day.
Worksop Hockey Club’s Gary Bell told the Guardian : “The entire day was enjoyed by all and will definitely be repeated next season.”
