As the region awaits the arrival of one of the world’s greatest sporting events, one local race team can’t wait to get involved.
Andy Moore Autocentres Racing Team, including Worksop rider Andy Bishop, have a busy weekend ahead, as theTour de France sets off from Leeds on Saturday and makes its way into Sheffield on Sunday.
The local racers start with a high profile city centre Criterium event in Huddersfield on Friday evening.
Team boss Andy Moore said: “The lads head to Huddersfield in good form, and look forward to some highly competitive racing in front of a capacity crowd.”
On Saturday the team will be based at the Greenhead Fields site, on Jawbone Hill in Oughtibridge, a key climb on the Tour de France stage.
They will be taking part in organised JE James led rides, where cyclists can ride the roads around the stage area alongside the racing boys, and enjoy their very own ‘mini-peloton experience’ with a real race team.
Moore added: “There’ll be plenty of opportunities for enthusiasts to pose for photos with the team, and chat about all things racing.”
The Greenhead Fields site will have a Tour festival atmosphere, with live entainment, a TDF screen for watching the Tour, a licensed bar, food, and weekend camping.
“The Jawbone Hill site promises to be one of the key points to see the Tour on the Sunday, and is sure to generate a fantastic atmosphere,” said Moore who believes it’a an honour for his team to be involved in an history weekend for the region.
“When we were asked to take part in the TDF weekend events, we jumped at the chance.”
“It’s going to be an amazing party weekend, the lads will be giving it everything on the Friday night in Huddersfield, and then it’ll be great fun to be in the led rides on the Saturday with friends and supporters.”
“Sunday will be an amazing spectator experience.”
