Lee Westwood has returned to Malaysia this week, to the scene of his only 2014 tournament victory.
The Worksop golfer, who won the Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, is back on the same course for this weekend’s CIMB Classic.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, where he will tee off alongside Sergio Garcia and American Patrick Reed on Thursday, Westwood said his April victory in KL would stand in his favour.
“Well, I’m not defending champion of this tournament, but I’m the most recent winner around this golf course, so I’m pretty confident as far as this week’s tournament is concerned,” he said.
“I’m playing nicely at the moment, as well.”
“I played well in Napa a couple weeks ago, and it’s nice for me that it’s a nice setting of a PGA TOUR event around a golf course where I have the most recent win.”
Westwood has fond memories of his time in the Far East over the years, with performances and victories to match the off-course experiences.
He said: I’ve always enjoyed coming to Asia, not just Malaysia, but Malaysia is one of my favorite spots.”
“ People are great, the city, Kuala Lumpur is fantastic.”
“The country itself is wonderful.”
“I think it’s a great place to come play. “
“Obviously the heat seems to suit me. I always seem to play well when it’s really hot and steamy.”
