Worksop Harriers took a team of six runners to compete in the International Straten Look 10km Road Race.
The race is organised by the Belgium Railways running club and attracts runners from Germany, Poland, France and Belgium.
Peter Fendley acted as team manager, having had to withdraw due to a cut suffered in a gardening accident.
The course was a four lap course, each lap 2.5 kilometre and with one lap to go Fendley made a disastrous mistake by failing to recognise a female runner who was in front of Worksop’s leading lady.
Although he thought that Adele Bryan had the race in the bag, she was actually pipped by four seconds at the finishing line.
Bryan recorded a time of 43:44 to take second place, while Helen Broughton finished in 46:27, producing a personal best and taking third senior lady.
Caroline Mcginley (47:28) took the female vet prize.
First home for the men was Mark Eyre (43:20), followed by Steve Rewston (44:33) and Dennis Learad (45:07).
