The very final match of the Worksop and District Table Tennis League season was an historic one.
The encounter was notable as for the first time in the league’s 79-year history, identical twins won one of the doubles competitions.
Orestas and Martynas Riauba in their debut season in the league overcame veteran Jack Tarr and Keiran Tutter to win the Division Three Doubles title.
The match, which was held over from the Championships Finals nights due to holiday commitments, was played at Manton Miners Welfare Club.
And the Riauba twins made short work of the first two games, winning them 11-3 and 11-2.
Tutter and Tarr just couldn’t get a look in against some of the excellent table tennis being played against them.
In the third game Tutter and Tarr started to get their own shots going and took an early lead.
But it was all in vain as back came the Riauba twins to overhaul their opponents to take the game 11-8, and with it the Division Three Doubles which finally brought down the curtain on what has been a fabulous winter season.
There are now no tickets left for the league’s annual Presentation Night, which is to take place on Saturday 17th May.
The league’s AGM is on Tuesday 10th of June.
Clubs officials are reminded that a player from each team must attend, otherwise a £10 fine will be incurred.
