Hind to the fore in Exterminator Fell

Richard Hind led the Clowne Road Runners home in the Totley Exterminator Fell Race, a gruelling 16-mile contest.

Hind completed the race, with its 1,290 metres of ascent, in a time of three hours 18 minutes and 45 seconds.

He was followed home by clubmates John Profitt (4:17:07), Greg Goddard (4:20:13) and Graham Sheen (4:55:13) .

Clowne ladies Louise Lowe and Samantha Coleclough represented the club at the Wilne 10km.

Lowe finished 239th out of a field over 858 runners, recording a time of 42:40 .

Coleclough ran a personal best in a time of 50:19 and earned a silver club standard award.

Two half marathon races at different ends of the country had Road Runner involvement.

Firstly, Paul Sadler was in action at Beverley at the Major Stone, finishing in a time of 1:27:23.

And Peter Twigg was running in Norfolk at Ryston and he crossed the line in a time of 1:26:40.

The popular Rother Valley 5km Parkrun offers a free recorded 5km race every Saturday, starting at 9am,.

The event boasts that it caters for all standards of runners.

Clowne Road Runners had six athletes taking part with Paul Sadler leading the way in 19:11.

He was followed by Chris Lane 22:31, Paul Summerly 24:31, John Proffitt 24:33, Graham Sheen 26:04 and Sarah:Jane Massingham 26:10.

The Great North Run is a popular race with most runners and many charities benefit from this well organised race.

Doing their bit to support the Leonard Cheshire Disabilities Chesterfield group were Clowne Road Runners Andrea Walker and Sharon Bache who completed the half marathon course in a time of 2:38:00.

It was an extended time for the local pair, due to some stopping and starting on the course collecting money.
