Stan Smith and Jordan Mann of Harworth became Bassetlaw Pairs Champions last week, following a comfortable win over Stanley Street’s Wayne Heath and Patrick Gee.
In the three frame aggregate score format, Harworth were giving seven start per frame.
In an opening scrappy frame, a fluked red led to a 21 break for Mann, the only difference between the pair.
In the second frame Heath and Gee’s luck wasn’t to change as a fluked red this time by Smith led to a 24 break, with the Harworth pair certainly having the run of the balls.
The only glimmer of hope came when Mann missed a routine red and Gee was able to step in with a 16 break to reduce the aggregated score.
However when the Harworth duo fluked the final black it summed up their luck in the first two frames.
In the third and final frame Heath and Gee were set a target of 50 points deficit, when they should have been recieving seven points on the handicap start.
All players struggled to make any decent breaks as the final peetered out with Heath and Gee seemingly not believing they could pull it back.
Smith and Mann potted steadily to increase the lead, with Mann producing some extraordinary single ball long pots to win by 82 points.
A second doubles title for the Harworth duo in as many seasons after sealing the League Pairs last year.
In other news the Scratch Final has been postponed from Saturday 31st May, but will still take place at Hodthorpe club at a later date.
In the League Pairs final, C. Toplis and C. Pasturel of Worksop Bowling Club will take on J. Bell and S. Robinson of Breakers S at Stanley Street Club on 5th June at 7.30pm.
