Last weekend the English Ice Hockey Midlands Under 11s finished fourth in an international tournament.
The youngsters, including Harry Rushby, were in action on the ice at Tilburg in Holland.
The tournament was hosted by the Dutch National champions Tilburg Trappers and attracted nine teams including the German national champions EV Lindau Islanders, the Dutch Under 12s national side and teams from Belgium and Holland.
Playing against opposition a year older than them the Midlands team, for whom Rushby was not the only 10-year-old, defied the odds and played their way through to the semi-final stage.
In the final four they came up against the Dutch national side who had swept all before them, the team who were crowned the eventual winners of the tournament.
The Midlands boys side, selected from junior teams from the likes of Coventry, Sheffield and Deeside, put up a brave fight before going down 6-1 and eventually having to settle for fourth place overall.
The English Midlands Under 11s team now has four weeks of preparation, starting with training and a game at Deeside Dragons in Chester, before competing closer to home in the National Championships at Ice Sheffield.
The finals are scheduled to be played on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd May 2015.
