The Worksop Harriers have completed a successful season in the Youth Development League, having competed on two fronts.
In the lower age group, for Under 13 and Under 15 athletes, the club retained its position in the Midland East Division One, the level to which they were promoted last year.
The final meeting in the league was at Tilsley Park, Radley, near Oxford, where the club came fifth on the day to finish the league in sixth place.
In the upper age group for Under 17s and Under 20s athletes, the Harriers were part of a composite team of ‘East Notts’ alongside youngsters from Retford and Newark.
Only Notts AC could form a complete team in this age group, with the other Notts clubs of Sutton, Mansfield and Rushcliffe competing at ‘West Notts’.
The league has been a successful venture and has given all the clubs involved the opportunity to offer a good level of competition to their older junior athletes and help retain them in track and field.
The final meeting in the YDL upper age group was at Grantham where the East Notts team won and were crowned League Champions to earn promotion to Midland East Division One.
Harriers Chairman, Peter Fendley said: “It’s been a very encouraging couple of seasons for the club.”
“With both teams now promoted it gives a higher standard of competition to help the athletes continue their development.”
And coach Michele Harrop added: “It has been a fantastic team effort from everyone – the athletes, their parents and all the officials.”
“There has been a lot of travelling so it shows how committed everyone was for us to all do so well.”
