Lee Westwood will not feature in the opening clashes between Europe and America at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
Paul McGinley, the European captain, has opted to give Worksop’s Westwood, Welshman Jamie Donaldson, Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell and Frenchman Victor Dubisson the morning off, as their team-mates feature in fourball action.
All eyes will be on the fourth and final fourball encounter, which pits Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson against Europe’s Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy.
Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose will open the event at 7.35am against Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson.
Thomas Bjorn and Martin Kaymer then take on Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.
Match three sees American youngsters Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed face Scotsman Gallacher and the popular Ian Poulter, before the ‘headline’ match involving world number one McIlroy.
