What started out as a good weekend for Dean Hipwell at Oulton Park ended in frustration on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Harworth racer took eighth place in Sunday’s 12-lap sprint race in cloudy, but dry conditions.
He made a steady start, maintaining 13th place for the first three laps.
Up into 10th by the end of the seventh lap, Hipwell was just two 10ths of a second behind James Rispoli, before Luke Hedger’s mistake took them both past him.
Hipwell passed Rispoli as they crossed the line at the end of the 10th lap, and the CDH Racing man had to settle for eighth at the chequered flag.
His fastest lap of the race would see him start from 12th on the grid for Bank Holiday Monday’s feature race.
A poor start saw him drop back to 16th, before a gradual recovery put him up into 12th.
Disaster struck, however, as he coasted into the pit lane with a dead engine.
After the elation of the previous day the team left the circuit unhappy, having to strip the Triumph down to find the cause of the problem.
