The youngster, and fellow Chesterfield ABCfighter Ryan Hopkinson, will be representing England.

It will mark the start of an exciting 12 months for the duo, who are hoping to enter the schoolboy championships next season.

The Chesterfield boxing club has had plenty to celebrate this season, with Creswell’s Ryan Turner and Clowne fighter Jared Wild reaching the semi-finals of the National Ambition Boxing Championships.

Wild, who was selected for England squad training, also won the under 91kg central senior novice title.

Turner, meanwhile was selected to represent Derbyshire ABA, boxed the Notts and Lincs under 60kg champion and won, and represented East Midlands ABA with another big victory.

In his most recent bout the 60kg boxer took on Tommy Larkin of Solihull ABC, the Midlands champion, in a Creswell fight night hosted by his club, Chesterfield.

In round one Turner showed superior boxing skills , frustrating his opponent , and landing telling body shots .

Round two saw Larkin attempt to turn the bout into a brawl, with some success as he took the round.

But in the third round Turner came out boxing, taking some good advice from his corner to dominate the round with speed and angles.

Turner ended the round with a huge left hook that sent his foe’s gum shield flying across the ring.

His performance was enough tos ecure victory by a majority decision from the judges.

Next season Turner will be looking forward to defences of his Derbyshire lightweight belt.
