Dukeries Academy Elite gymnasts travelled to Newcastle Gymnastics Academy to take part in the prestigious Alpha Factor Angel of the North Competition.

Eight of the elite group competed against gymnasts from around Great Britain to compete their grade routines.

In Grade 10 Eleanor Brammer took the lead overall, winning third place and third on vault, followed by Sydney Stratford winning a fifth place rosette overall and third place on beam.

Sara Smith was first on floor with a stunning performance.

All the grade 10 girls Eleanor Brammer, Sydeny Stratford, Sara Smith, Britney wood, Sophie Brogan and Libby Maguire performed wonderful routines and finished in the top 12, a great result in such a large group.

Jodie Ferrol competed in the Grade 9 event and came first on floor and vault, unfortunately just missing out on a podium position.

Courtney Wood at grade 6, a high level national grade, came fourth on floor and vault.

Coach Naomi Johnson said: “All the girls have been working extremely hard and all achieve personal best scores in Newcastle. “

“They are now working for their East Midlands Regional grades and after a wonderful start are hoping to achieve distinctions in Leicester.”
