Clowne runners tackle 40 mile challenge

Two of Clowne Road Running Club’s ultra-race specialists took on the challenging Compton 40 mile Downland race.

The course is a scenic and hilly 40 mile two lap course set in the Berkshire Downs between Oxford and Newbury.

Steve Battle managed to finish in 18th place in a time of 6:49:13, winning the first Male Vet over 50 award.

Following close behind in 34th position was Richard Hind in a time of 7:18:44

More than 6,000 runners took part in the Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon in Sheffield, with three Clowne Road Runners also taking part.

The route starts in the heart of Sheffield city centre, runners then journey along Ecclesall Road before taking a right turn up towards Ringinglow, along country roads runners are able to see superb views of the city of Sheffield and the Peak District.

Those views are then left behind as the course heads downhill to the outskirts of Dore, back to Ecclesall Road and on to the grand finish at the Town Hall Sheffield.

First home for Clowne was Chris Lane 01:39:18, followed by Paul Levitt 01:44:22 and Steve Hattersley 01:57:44.

The ever popular local 5km Park runs attracted 2 Clowne runners to the Clumber Park 5km course, Steve Battle finishing 10th in a time of 20:39 and Richard Hind in a time of 21:13.  Whilst at the Rother Valley 5km course finishing 1st in a time of 17:05 was Dareen King, 5th was Simon Gregory in a time of 18:04 and running his first park run was Jordan Street finishing 7th in a time of 18:57.
