The penultimate race in the local Inter Club Cross Country League took place on Sunday, without some of the top Clowne Road Runners.

And the Clowne club paid the price for not being able to field their specialists, slipping to fourth place in the men’s team race.

Retford Athletics Club hosted the event, with very muddy conditions, as over 175 local runners took on a challenging six mile course.

Simon Gregory led the men’s team home in fifth place, while the Clowne ladies were shown the way by Sarah Attwood and retained their third place position in the competition.

With the final race taking place at Clowne on the 1st March, Handsworth Road Hogs are looking firm favourites to win the overall title.

Clowne Road Runners have an overseas club member Mats Rydberg who resides in Sweden and has completed in all four of the previous races.

Rydberg travels from Sweden every two weeks to run in the competition.
