With the racing season now well underway, Bassetlaw Triathlon Club have been in action in Lincoln, Holmfirth and Epworth.
The first race of the Midlands Sprint Triathlon Series took place at Burton Waters in Lincoln and the club were eager to see who would come out on top when Matt Shaw and James Gregory were drawn in the same swim heat.
It could not have been much closer as they burst out the pool clocking the same 400m swim time.
Shaw managed to grind out a two minute lead going into the 5km run and despite Gregory putting in strong run, Shaw came home in 1:09:18 with his team-mate close behind in 1:11:36.
Shaw took 36th overall and fourth in his age category.
Eddie Knight and Helen Crossley were also pleased to see their names in the top 10 of their age categories.
Thomas Richardson headed over to Holmfirth for the popular ‘First of the Summer Tri’ event and on a difficult hilly course posted a top 50 finish, coming home in 1:31:51.
The club’s best performances of the early season came at Epworth with Matt Lloyd and Tom Shaw’s hard work over the winter paying off.
Lloyd stormed home in 57:48, just missing out on a podium finish, taking fourth.
Shaw was not far behind in 1:01:41, taking 13th.
The club are looking for new members.
