Promoter Eddie Hearn is still hoping Amir Khan will rise to the bait and take part in a battle of Britain against Kell Brook.

Bolton’s favourite son has so far ignored the temptation to make millions with a scrap against Sheffield’s IBF champion, despite the fact Wembley Stadium was reportedly booked for a June 4 box-office blockbuster.

Khan has now been confirmed as the mandatory challenger to face the winner of Danny Garcia v Robert Guerrero for the vacant WBC belt this weekend. And that appears to be his main focus.

Khan was stopped in four rounds by unbeaten American Garcia in 2012 in Las Vegas and badly wants a crack at putting the record straight. It’s a “re-match I’ve been looking forward to him for a long time” he says. So it looks like a matter of pride over cash, for Khan, who would earn more fighting the Sheffielder.

Hearn wrote in his Daily Mail column: “Khan remains the target and it seems he will have a choice of what to do next - he is mandatory for the winner of Garcia

v Guerrero, who fight for the WBC title, or fight Kell. Either option would lead to a great fight, the difference being he would make twice as much for fighting Kell in one of the biggest bouts in British boxing history.”
