Mirza hits century in Worksop win

ONE of Worksop Cricket Club’s winter signings hit an unbeaten 117 in their win over Blidworth on Saturday.

Akil Mirza starred with the bat at Burmah Road, alongside Steve Bentley who notched 52 runs as Worksop reached 221 for 4 after Blidworth had made 220 for 5 in their innings.

The result gave Worksop 18 points and kept them top of the Bassetlaw Championship.

In Division One Whitwell lost by seven wickets to Caythorpe II, while Clumber Park had a winning draw with Cuckney II, despite posting an impressive 277 for 7 thanks to captain Mark Dean’s knock of 71 and Chris Ward and Mark Cox plundering 68 and 66 runs respectively.
