Sheffield Wednesday: Trio keep Owls guessing

Sheffield Wednesday are still waiting to discover whether Lewis Price, Jose Semedo and Caolan Lavery intend on extending their Hillsborough stays.

The trio were all offered new deals by the Championship Play-Off finalists as part of their retained list over a fortnight ago.

Time is rapidly running out for goalkeeper Price, midfielder Semedo and striker Lavery to agree new terms. Their Owls contracts are due to run out next week.

It is believed Price, Semedo and Lavery have all been offered one-year deals.

Price, snapped up on a free-transfer following his departure from Crystal Palace last summer, has struggled to make his mark at Wednesday, making just seven appearances last season. He has been leapfrogged in the pecking order by England Under-21 international Joe Wildsmith.

First-team opportunities have also been at a premium for Semedo in 2016. He has only played four times this year, with competition for places fierce in the middle of the park. Despite seeing Alex Lopez return to Celta Vigo following the expiry of his loan deal, head coach Carlos Carvalhal has a plethora of options in that department, including Sam Hutchinson, Kieran Lee, Barry Bannan and Lewis McGugan.

Semedo, a fans favourite and a popular figure in the dressing room, has made over 150 outings since arriving from Charlton Athletic in July 2011.

Of the three free agents, Lavery is least likely to stay put. He barely figured for the Owls last term and was farmed out on loan to League Two outfit Portsmouth. Due to the fact that Lavery is under the age of 24, any interested club would be required to sign him for a fee fixed by a tribunal.
