Sheffield Wednesday: Owls vow to attack Play-Offs

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal has stressed Sheffield Wednesday will maintain their attacking approach in the Championship Play-Offs.

Carvalhal has won a host of admirers, having transformed the Owls into one of the division’s great entertainers.

Wednesday’s expansive, passing football has wowed the club’s fan-base, with only fourth-placed Hull City (42) managing more home goals than them in the regular season.

Indeed, the Owls arguably produced their most stylish Hillsborough performance of the campaign to see off Cardiff City last weekend. Victory ensured the Owls qualified for the Play-Offs and guaranteed their highest-placed finish since exiting the Premier League in 2000.

Carvalhal has told The Star: “A draw would have been enough against Cardiff (for a play-off place) but we played to win.

“We gave a very clear sign to the team that we wanted to win. We played three strikers in attack and went for the three points. That has been our philosophy since the beginning and we won’t change anything in the play-offs.

“It doesn’t make any sense to change anything and I’m sure we will play in the play-offs like we have done all season.”

With one eye on the Play-Offs, Carvalhal is considering making wholesale changes for Saturday’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. As revealed by this newspaper yesterday, leading marksman Fernando Forestieri will not feature at Molineux.
