LOCAL sports charity Sport for Kids Like Yours celebrated its 10 year anniversary last Friday with an awards night and graduation ceremony at Carr Hill Primary School in Retford.

Special guests included county councillors Wendy and Mike Quigley who presented S.K.Y. with a £200 donation, and Fran Walker from North Notts College.

Over 200 children and adults shared the celebrations with event organisers Tony and Michelle McManus.

Seventy-five awards and 70 certificates, with categories ranging from good behaviour, loyalty, family awards and martial arts were awarded to children and parents over the course of four hours.

The ceremony was opened by current UK Taekwondo Academy and Golden Dragons student Joseph McManus.

There were also demonstrations by European Taekwondo vice president Adrian Trantor and his team, Elkesley Primary School, Captain Kettlebell, Tom Millican Freestyle Martial Arts and Golden Dragons with Dave Levett to entertain the crowd.

Half-time saw Mama Guicys, Everest and ASDA provide food and drinks, with a raffle that included prizes donated by Batting 4 6, Everest Indian Restaurant and K. Kleen.

Other donations were made by Quality Keys, More Than Flowers and Trax FM.

Over 20 primary and secondary schools were represented on the night, with children aged 4 to 17 awarded.

Parents and children also took part in a ‘crazy catch’ competition on stage with Tommy Harrison and Leo Stockdale winning.

Tony McManus told the Guardian: “It was a fantastic night, I left feeling very emotional and gumbled by all the kind words, comments and support, and I look forward to continuing to support children and parents for many more years to come.”

Tony added his thanks to Neil Moore, head of Carr Hill and Tim, site manager, for their gracious comments and use of the school.

S.K.Y. runs courses, parties and teaches PE in many schools.
