Rugby: Local rivals beaten

WORKSOP's first action of 2010 brought a much needed win against local rivals Ashfield on Saturday.

They thought they had scored after one move only to find they had mistaken the five-metre line for the try line.

Dinnington managed one legitimate try through Bradley Page and a Josh Velenti penalty gave them an 8-0 lead at half-time.

Worksop raised their game in the second half and Dinnington were forced onto the back foot defending close to their own line.

They held their lead until just past the mid-point of the half when a high tackle, preventing a try, saw Dinnington having a player sent off and Worksop awarded a penalty try.

The successful conversion put Worksop one point behind and the game in the balance.

Both sides looked capable of scoring in the last quarter of the game but it was Richard White who sealed Dinnington’s victory with a try in the dying minutes.
