The former Worksop Town boss will take charge of a Tigers Legends XI in order to raise funds for the world’s fourth oldest club.

Mitchell, who recently quit his post as director of player development at League One Chesterfield, says Worksop is a club close to his heart.

“In the luckiest man in the world, I’ve had a good time at all the clubs I’ve been at,” he said.

“I had a brilliant time at Worksop.”

Mitchell’s nostalgia was inflamed by a recent get together of old boys from his time at the club.

The reunion, at Breakers in Worksop, saw players flock back to the town to spend time with old team-mates.

Mitchell, who was manager at Worksop from 1997 to 2003 and was known for finding local talent, enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

“There was a really good turnout,” he said.

“We built two or three teams at Worksop and sometimes at these events you just get lads from one side, but there were lads from all three sides.

“We had a really good night.”

Since the reunion, it has been suggested to Mitchell that he taken charge of a Legends XI in a match at Sandy Lane.

And he can’t wait.

“I’m really privileged to be asked,” he said.

“With the club’s plight at the minute, not owning their ground, any way we can make money is great for the them.

“When they came up with this idea I was delighted.

“I’m looking forward to it, they just have to get their heads round a few dates but I think it will be in pre-season.

“Hopefully we can make a bit of a splash about it and get everyone down there to raise a few quid for the club.”

Mitchell walked away from a five-year contract at the Proact, where he had worked for six years, and is currently mulling over offers from several clubs.

He also counts Gainsborough in his former clubs.
