ANSTON fighter Jordan Waring put on an explosive display in his final semi-professional ‘K1’ kick-boxing bout on Sunday.

The Falcon Fight Academy standout, who had a fine amateur career and is set to move into the full professional ranks, opened up a show at the Forum Event Centre at Hertfordshire University with a first round knockout victory.

Waring was matched against a more experienced opponent in Saffron Walden’s Mike Yiannakou, and after a few exchanges that allowed him to work out his opponent’s game plan, he brought the fight to a thrilling finish.

Coach Cris Janson Piers described the action.

“Jordan, as per instructions approached the fight in a very cautious manner, placing certain combinations to test his opponent, unsure if Yiannakou would rush him.”

“Once I was happy I told Jordan to move in and after a few exchanges Mike threw a spinning backfist which fell short and left Jordan with an opportunity to go straight down the middle with a right which took his opponent down to the canvas.”

“Yiannakou beat the count and was allowed to carry on but Jordan took him to the ropes and on the back foot, opened Mike up, moved straight in, clinched and threw a massive knee to the head of his opponent.”

The knee was all it took to ensure a quick end to Waring’s bout, which was scheduled for three three-minute rounds, and his coach is delighted with his progress.

Janson Piers added: “It proves Jordan is a force to be reckoned with. He displayed his finely honed skills.”

The youngster is hoping to fight again in June against an overseas opponent, and training partner and Falcon instructor Kerry-Louise Norbury may also feature on the card.

The world champion kickboxer has a K1 rules world title bout lined up for later in the year.
