Former Tiger’s World Cup begins
WORKSOP Town Football Club was the talk of the footballing world for a few seconds on Tuesday, thanks to former Tiger Leo Bertos.
The winger is a fixture in the New Zealand starting 11, and made his World Cup debut in South Africa against Slovakia this week.
Just four years ago he was plying his trade for Ronnie Glavin’s men at Sandy Lane in the Conference North.
Bertos and the All Whites came back from 1-0 down to seal a point against their favoured opponents, with a stoppage time equaliser from defender Winston Reid.
The international star’s appearances for Worksop were mentioned by the BBC commentary team, Simon Brotherton and Martin Keown.
On Monday of next week, Bertos, should he be selected, will face the might of Italy, before New Zealand’s final group game against Paraguay on Friday 25th June.
