Double defeat for rugby club sides

Gainsborough All Blacks v Retford 2nds G121201-2b

Gainsborough All Blacks v Retford 2nds G121201-2b

BOTH Gainsborough Rugby Club sides were beaten by teams from Retford on a difficult Saturday.

The All Blacks were at home and showed great team spirit and togetherness in a hard fought game that saw them come out on the wrong end of a 24-14 scoreline.

The Maoris travelled to Retford and lost 41-7 but the highlight for them was a try for Dave Luther in a backs against the wall display.

The All Blacks, playing against a strong Retford team, were up against it from the start but put up an great all round display with tries from Chadwick and Turner – both men consistently putting their names on the scoresheet this season.

There were fine performances from the forwards who all worked tirelessly and the backs tackled hard all afternoon and attacked with promise when given good ball.

Man of the Match went to prop forward James Taylor for his huge tackles in defence and strong ball carrying in attack.

A pecial mention again goes to Dawson who continues to shine and put his body on the line for his team mates and Elliott Humphrey who captained the team and led from the front.

Both fixtures were always going to be difficult for both of the Gainsborough sides, Retford are a bigger club two division above Gainsborough, but the emerging All Blacks are now starting to fulfil their potential and are able to match most of the teams they come up against.

The Maoris seem to be constantly travelling but led by Sam Bradford, who has grown into the captain’s role, the players are showing great character and team spirit and credit must go to all who have played under Bradford this year.

This week there will only be one game at home to Skegness II at 2.15pm.
