SIMON Clark is using the weather-enforced break from match action to plot for the rest of the season.
The Tigers boss has had meetings with players, and his staff, to set out targets and plans as he attempts to guide the club into a play-off berth.
Eighteen games remain for Worksop Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, and Clark wants an average of two points per game.
“It’s an 18 game season and we’re not going to win all 18, but 36 points will get us into the play-offs,” he told the Guardian.
“I had a meeting with the staff on Saturday after training, and we’ve had meetings with players to talk about targets and certain things we want to do.”
“And I’ve had a look at about six game DVDs to look at things we need to tighten up on, technical things we need to work on.”
His time reviewing past fixtures has reinforced his view that winger Craig King, currently out with an ankle injury, is integral to the side’s chances.
“Kingy will be another 10 days to two weeks, it’s a big hit he’s taken, but he’s only 21 and he heals well.”
“Once he’s fully fit he’ll play a part, he’s been very, very decent for us.”
“His possession stats and the work he does is key to the club going forward, playing how we like to play.”
Another player still not fully fit is defender Luke Shiels, with a recurrence of the knee injury that he suffered at North Ferriby back in September.
“He’s devastated, the kid has been miserable because he’s come back from injury and done great, and looked the player we know he is, and then he’s got a bang and he’s back to square one.”
“But all this rest will do him the world of good.”
If, as expected, the home game against Buxton on Saturday falls victim to the cold snap, Tigers will turn their attention to Farsley AFC in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
Clark revealed: “We’ll pick a side with injuries in mind, but a side to win the game.”
“The kids will be involved in some way, and Farsley will go full strength, but we’ve got to keep Whitby on the Saturday in mind, that game is massive for us.”
