Angling: Creditable finish
WORKSOP & DAA senior squad competed in the Angling Trust Division One Championships on the River Trent last weekend.
Unfortunately the team did not make the medals, but finished a creditable 33rd out of 67 teams.
Top scorers for the team were David Wright, who weighed 3 kilo 520g to take 62 points and Glen Turner, with 2 kilo 850g for 58 points.
The squad would like to thank the Worksop & DAA for all the continuing support and Ken Ward Sports for supplying all the bait.
CLUB RESULTS
THERE are three matches to report on from Manton AC, the first which took place on Carvale Lake at Bolsover on 7th August, where the main frame all fished the pole.
First with a mixed net of 21lb 8oz was Keith Morris, from peg 28, squeezing out Garry Morris with 20lb 14oz of carp.
Alan Slater was third with 15lb 4oz.
The next match on 14th was competed for on the Winthorpe rack on the River Trent, where Les Coe took a pike of over 7lb on the pole to take the win from peg 43 with 7lb 4oz.
Dave Wilson and Mel Morris both fished the feeder to take second and third with 5lb 6oz and 2lb 4oz respectively.
The final event took place last Saturday at Lodge farm on the Long Island, where all nets were made up of carp.
In top spot was Garry Morris who fished caster up in the water to weigh 36lb 8oz, ahead Stuart Coupe who employed the pellet waggler for a net of 27lb 3oz.
Making up the frame again was Alan Slater who fished the floating pole for 21lb 8oz.
The members of Stanley Street Sports and Social AC visited the Clearwater complex at Ranskill last Sunday, where Bill Richardson took the honours with a carp net of 49lb 10oz on the pellet waggler, with fish going to 8lb.
In second, Steve Pogson alternated between the bomb and waggler in the margins to record a level 36lb, ahead of Pete Scott with an all ide net of 31lb 4oz, on maggot fished shallow on the long pole.
The next match is to be held on the Weirfield on 5th September.

St Joseph's AC travelled to Misterton to fish the Oak Tree Lake last Sunday, where Chris Davenport recorded a win fishing worm and caster at 11 meters on peg 1, for a mixed net of carp and skimmers which took the scales around to a level 32lb.
In second from peg 12, despite getting lost on the way, was Roger Stocks with an all carp net of 29lb 13oz, fishing sweetcorn down the margins.
Ian Barnet fished the same method as the winner for a mixed net of 26lb 5oz.
British Gas AC visited the Little John Lakes at Ollerton on Thursday 19th, where they opted to fish the Robin Hood pond.
Ronnie Wynn ran out a clear winner on peg 11, fishing paste at six metres, to take carp to 8lb in his 64lb 15oz net.
Second placed Alan Richardson cast a method feeder to the island and later fished corn down the margins for 43lb 15oz.
Terry Cartwright was third with 42lb 6oz on the method feeder and pole fished corn and meat.
The next match is Thursday 2nd September at Lakeside.
There are two matches to report on from the Tuesday Club, the first on 10th August at Little John Fishery, where Steve Sutton ran out the winner on peg 39 with 54lb 3oz pole fishing worm.
Keith Morris was runner-up on peg 21 with 36lb 3oz and Alan Hadfield made up the frame with a level 33lb off peg 25.
Their second match took place on the lily pond at Lodge Farm on 17th, with Sid Whitehouse taking the honours employing the pellet waggler on peg 53 for 54lb 1oz.
Keith Walters was second with 47lb 11oz on peg 64, pole fishing pellet, and Mick Simpson was third on peg 65 with 46lb 12oz.
Grafton AA made the short journey to the straight mile fishery near Brampton, where they found the going tough.
Mick Simpson led the way with a 13lb 12oz mixed bag from peg 3, squeezing Walt Elgy into second with 13lb 9oz from peg 13.
Simon Short was third on peg 5 with 11lb 2oz.
Our old friend Brett Northage of the Greyhound AC has two matches to report.
The first took place at Laughterton on the Tidal Trent where Charlie O'Sullivan wrapped up victory, with 4lb 2oz off peg 39 using the ground bait feeder.
Mark O'Sullivan took second with 3lb 12oz off peg 30 and Brett Northage was third with 3lb from peg 34.
Their second match took place on the Horseshoe Lake at Wales, Russ Brown claiming the win on peg 14 wih 41lb 8oz tempted on pole fished worm.
Charlie O Sullivan fished the ground bait feeder on peg 7 for 24lb 6oz and second place, and Tracy Dickinson netted 19lb 9oz on peg 16 for third.
D&P Tackle of Dinnington held their latest knock up at Lodge Farm on the lily pond, where Ray Short won pole fishing pellet for 56lb 6oz from peg 58.
Dave Marsh utilised the pellet waggler to good effect for 36lb 1oz from peg 50 and Steve Wilson nailed down third with 29lb 11oz from peg 59, pole fishing paste.
COMMERCIAL ROUND UP
BEST match weights of the week at Lakeside Fishery fell to Mark Holmes, who pole fished worm on peg 23 for a mixed bag weighing 138lb 9oz.
Luke Sears won Wednesday's open with 86lb 1oz of carp and skimmers, taken on pole fished pellet on the carp lake.
James Mead landed six lumps on boilies from peg 3, topped by a common of 28lb 6oz.
Steve Hughes banked three specimens to 28lb 7oz on pineapple boilies.
Over on the trout lake Andrew Newbold slipped his net under seven fish to 6lb tempted on a cats whisker on a sinking line.
Worksop fly caster Alan Wilkinson landed 11 fish to 7lb on his white fritz cast on an intermediate line.
Up at Lodge Farm Tuesday's Likely Lads match on long island saw Jason Swift claim victory with the pellet waggler on peg 93, with 51lb 13oz.
In Wednesday's veterans match also on long island, angling legend Les Richmond put together a winning bag of 51lb 3oz on peg 97 pole fishing pellet.
In Thursday's open match on the field pond, Craig Crosby amassed a winning net of 115lb 2oz off peg 30 pole fishing pellet.
