Kiveton Park Cricket Club’s inconsistent start to the season continued with a losing draw at home to Notts and Arnold on Saturday.

The Notts and Arnold batsmen were in a positive mood from the start, as they set about posting a huge total.

Opening batsmen Ian Flood (55) and Ian Cross (81) were quick to put the hosts on the back foot.

The partnership was on 80 when Flood d perished off the once again impressive Matt Hall (4 for 41).

However Sri Lankan Dilhan Cooray (95*) came to the crease and continued the scoring with ease.

Once Cross departed to the bowling of Chris Storey (2 for 84) with the score on 198 Kiveton did start to restrict the scoring, the Notts and Arnold middle order suffering a mini collapse at 209 for 5.

With Cooray still at the crease, Craig Harrison ably assisted his partner by establishing a final total of 278 for 7.

Kiveton’s reply started at a fast tempo with Adam Whiteley (88) in good form, supported by Richard Grainger (14).

Cartwright (8) departed with the score on 124 but it was the wicket of Whiteley that was the major turning point.

Hall (37) had a good innings but no more significant partnerships or individual innings’ could spur the home side as Kiveton had to settle for a losing draw, finishing 227 for 7.
