Worksop Town’s Under 19s will face either Mansfield Town or Hallam FC in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
The young Tigers booked their place in the final four with a 2-0 win at Basford United.
Worksop were able to field a strong side, with Chris Salt, Josh Williams, Reece Twell, Harry Johnson and Tom Elliot all in action – all players who have featured for the club’s senior team this season.
After an even opening 20 minutes to the game the youngsters started to get on top, creating several chances, the best of which fell to Reece Twell who headed wide from Josh Bachner’s cross.
The Tigers eventually took the lead on 66 minutes, Tom Elliott firing into the top corner following good work by Jordan Camm and Twell.
And seven minutes later Elliott doubled the lead, sweeping home Camm’s cross from the left.
After the final whistle Basford’s Anton Robinson received two red cards.
One of his reds was for foul and abusive language, while tthe second was for repeatedly ignoring the referee’s instructions for the player to come to him to be addressed, walking off the pitch instead, then ignoring further instructions for the player to go to the referee.
One sad note for the Tigers was the injury sustained by Connon Flannery who had to be carried from the field of play with what looked like a serious knee injury.
Kevin Staniland’s side are next in action on Thursday 3rd April, when they ‘host’ Staveley Miners Welfare, at Staveley Miners Welfare,at 7.45pm .
