Retford United’s Under 12s brought home the silverware from Southwell City’s first ever girls football tournament on Sunday.

The young Badgers started the tournament with a victory over the hosts.

Despite having not trained or played for almost two months, Retford took the lead when Chloe Rose scored her first of the day.

And Southwell City were unable to find an equaliser.

The second game saw the girls face Sherwood Youth, and a 0-0 draw was a fair result in an evenly matched contest.

Retford’s third game and second victory came with a 1-0 result against Gedling Southbank, thanks to a late goal from Kelci Taylor and a great save from Taryn Hill, who was to go the whole tournament without conceding a goal.

That saw the girls through to the semi-final with one group game left to play.

Retford topped the group after winning their final game, with another Rose goal.

The semi-final opponents were Collingham, runners up in Group B.

Retford played with style and flair and at times were unplayable.

Four goals from on fire Rose and a well deserved goal for all round grafter Rachel Warner saw them coast through to the final.

Gedling were the opposition in the final, and the result was the same as the group clash, Rose firing in her seventh of the day as Retford were crowned tournament winners.
