A Jono Wafula own goal, and a fine individual effort from Gino Kellher gave Basford United a 2-0 win over Worksop Town on Tuesday.

It was a strong Tigers side who ran out at Greenwich Avenue, against the 2014/15 Midland Football League Premier Division champions.

They found themselves behind on 13 minutes when Wafula tried to loft a back pass to keeper Jon Kennedy, but only succeeded in lifting it over him, and into the net.

The second half saw several changes for Worksop, who went further behind in the 90th minute, Kellher driving through unchallenged to try his luck from 20 yards, beating substitute keeper Ben Townsend.

After Thursday’s trip to Eastwood, next up for Tigers is the visit of Gainsborough Trinity to Sandy Lane on Saturday.

The Conference North side may well have some former Tigers in their line-up, with Jan Budtz, Adam Quinn, Chris Salt and Nathan Jarman in their ranks.

On Tuesday 28th Mark Shaw’s men travel to Penistone Church, and Hucknall Town on Thursday 30th.
