Experienced midfielder David Jones has warned his Owls teammates against understimating Championship strugglers Cardiff City tonight.

Wednesday fly to South Wales today targeting a sixth victory in their last eight league matches.

But Jones is under no illusions at the size of the task facing the Owls, with the Bluebirds having recently appointed ex-Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock as their new manager.

He told The Star: “We know whatever team he [Warnock] puts out will be very organised and know what their jobs are to do.

“He’s a very good manager of massive experience in this league.

“It will be a very difficult game and we need to be on top of our game to get anything from it. If we are not, we won’t win the game. It is as simple as that.”

While Carvalhal’s troops were in action on Sunday lunch-time, Cardiff have had two extra days to recover, having not played since Friday night.

Jones said: “Sometimes it (extra time) works for you, sometimes it doesn’t.

“Obviously you get more recovery which helps and more time to talk about the plan for the game.

“It is a disadvantage but we have to recover well.

“We will be very well prepared. It won’t affect how we will prepare. We will just get ready to go again.”

The teams will observe a minute’s silence before kick-off, marking the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster which claimed 144 lives. Both sides will also wear black armbands.
