Full-back Liam Palmer is optimistic Wednesday’s five out-of-contract players will choose to extend their stays at the Championship club.
It was a fortnight ago the Owls offered fresh terms to goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, captain Glenn Loovens, Jose Semedo, Kieran Lee and Chris Maguire.
Crowd favourite Semedo recently hinted on social media that he intends to pen a new deal.
Palmer, speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, said: “Those five are big players for us so it’s great to see them offered contracts.
“The sooner they sign the better so we can keep that core together and then it’s definitely a case of bringing in a few more. Hopefully those deals can get sorted and them five will stay.”
Worksop-born Palmer missed the final nine matches of the 2014/15 season after suffering an ankle ligament injury in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at home to Fulham. Stuart Gray’s charges are due to report back for pre-season training on July 1 and the 23-year-old is confident he will, by that point, be fit to return to action.
