Michael Turner says Sheffield Wednesday is the perfect club to get his career back on track.

The experienced centre half – who has moved to Hillsborough on a season-long loan – has endured a frustrating 2015 so far after finding himself on the fringes under Alex Neil at Norwich City.

But he insists the Owls’ ambitions match his own and he is looking forward to playing regular football again.

“As soon as I heard of the interest I knew it was something I fancied,” Turner told the Star. “Since the new manager came in at Norwich in January, I’ve not really played. He came in and told me almost from day one that I wasn’t in his plans, it was as simple as that.

“I went out on loan to Fulham for the last two months of the season and I knew pretty much that I would have to move on if I wanted to play and all I want to do is play football.

“It was about seeing what were the best options for me.

“It’s clear to see the aim here is promotion and I want to be part of a successful team.”

Turner could make his Owls debut against Middlesbrough on Saturday and despite not playing so far this season, he says he is ready.

He said: “I’ve trained all summer and I’m in good shape.

“I trained for the first time with the lads yesterday and I’ll train today so it’s up to the manager.

“I’m happy to be in the squad and see what happens from there.”

Turner had been expected to be one half of a double swoop on Norwich by the Owls which would include striker Gary Hooper.

While he acknowledged the interest in his Canaries team mate, Turner insisted he was not aware of the current status of any deal.

He said: “I know when the club first showed an interest in me that they were interested in Gary.

“I spoke to him before I spoke to the club and he was going to see what they had to say.

“I’ve not spoken to him since I made the move but I’m sure it’ll be resolved one way or another before the window closes.”
