Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Romanian striker Sergiu Bus for an undisclosed fee from Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia, subject to international clearance.
The 22-year-old has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal, becoming the Owls’ third signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Lewis Baker and Will Keane. It is understood Wednesday have spent an initial £375,000 on Bus but there are add-ons in the deal.
The forward, aged 22, joined Sofia last summer, scoring 10 goals in 19 appearances before the winter break. Bus, who began his career at hometown club CFR Cluj before enjoying loan spells with Unirea Alba Iulia, Târgu Mureș, Gaz Metan Mediaș and Corona Brașov, has played seven times for the Romanian Under-21 side.
He will wear shirt number 28 at Hillsborough.
Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, said: “He [Bus] is a hard working aggressive striker. He’s got hunger. He wants to get in the full international side and can score a goal. Hopefully he will do that for us and hit the ground running.”
Centre-back Dejan Kelhar has agreed a new Wednesday deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the season. The 30-year-old, formerly of Red Star Belgrade, has recently recovered from a serious knee injury which he suffered in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United.
