Carlos Carvalhal has refused to rule out Sheffield Wednesday making more signings in the transfer window.

The Owls have been busy bolstering all departments of their team over the summer, bringing in 11 new recruits.

In recent weeks, Wednesday have been linked with a loan move for Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones.

Although Carvalhal is delighted with the business they have done so far, the Portuguese remains open to the possibility of further reinforcements.

Carvalhal, who will take charge of his first match at home to Bristol City tomorrow, said: “I’m very happy with the group that we have.

“We have got two more players in this week and Lucas Joao only joined us last week so they don’t understand 100% our philosophy.

“Game by game we will get better and they will understand exactly what we want.”

But he added: “The window is open and all teams will be looking at that until it closes so there could be some movement.”

Carvalhal insists they will not sign players for the sake of it.

“We want to bring players in to improve the team,” he stressed. “We don’t want to bring players in just to make up the numbers.

“We have a lot of players but I want two players to fight for each position. But, at the same time, we need to rotate the players.”

Right-back Marnick Vermijl moved to Preston North End on a season-loan loan deal and Carvalhal has hinted more players may head for the exit door.

Ideally, the former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas chief wants a 22-23 man squad.

He added: “It is possible some players will go out on loan. Football changes a lot.”

Atdhe Nuhiu is in a rich vein of form, having netted three goals in the final two matches of Wednesday’s warm-up matches. Carvalhal, who has called on the Owls to turn Hillsborough into a place to fear, has given his backing to the striker.

He said: “I hope he [Nuhiu] will be a regular source of goals for us. I hope we score goals from everywhere. We are trying all the time to put a dynamic together that is comfortable for the players.

“We are near to the competition and I have trust in my players. I have confidence in them.”
