Stuart Gray wants Kieran Lee to prove himself as one Sheffield Wednesday’s most reliable sources of goals next season.

Lee signed a new deal earlier this week to pledge his future to the club for another two seasons.

And after scoring six goals last term, head coach Gray is expecting him to beat that during the next campaign.

“One of the goals he’s been set for next season is to beat that tally,” Gray said.

“I’ll be challenging him to hit double figures and no doubt he’ll be challenging himself to do that as well.

“I think it’s realistic for Kieran. He’s a fit boy, he gets about the pitch.

“He’s not one that is going to lash one in from 35 yards but he times his runs into the box as we saw so many times last season, like the goal he scored against Rotherham in injury time to win the game.

“That was all down to the timing of his run because he lost his markers to get into position to break into the box and score.

“He’s added all that to his game during the season and it’s been great to see him get the rewards for all the hard work that he’s put in.

“It’s great for us because we need players chipping in from all areas and I’ve challenged the squad to do that.

“Any midfielder wants to score goals and Kieran proved that last season.”
