Cameron Dawson could be set for an extended stay at League Two side Wycombe Wanderers after impressing on his debut.

Just hours after joining the Chairboys on a seven-day emergency loan, the Owls goalkeeper started their EFL Cup clash with Bristol City in midweek. Although Dawson acquitted himself well, the 21-year-old was powerless to stop Wycombe from sliding to a 1-0 loss.

Chairboys manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Cameron Dawson came in and did a great job - he’s a great prospect for Sheffield Wednesday - and the man in front of him, Will De Havilland, was outstanding against a £15million player in Tammy Abraham. You wouldn’t know the difference.

“Cameron’s had a 90-minute trial there and he’s come up trumps. He looks like a solid keeper, he’s a great individual and he wants to be here.

“There’s a lot of caveats that go into getting loan players and it kills me sometimes. I know it’s business but you can’t pay for the experience these boys will get at Wycombe Wanderers.”

Wycombe drafted in Dawson, who has never played for Wednesday, after No 1 Scott Brown picked up an injury.

Dawson, who is expected to remain in between the sticks for the visit of Grimsby Town posted on Twitter: “Delighted to make my @wwfcofficial debut an senior debut last night! Very unlucky with the result but thought the lads were excellent!”
