Bob Harris is playing his best football since arriving at Bramall Lane, Nigel Clough has claimed.

The defender joined Sheffield United from Blackpool 11 months ago and was a member of the squad which reached the FA Cup semi-finals last term.

But Clough believes Harris now poses an even greater threat to opponents than when helped the League One club make history at Wembley.

“Bob has been on a brilliant run of form over the past five or six games,” the United manager said. “It’s probably his best spell in a Sheffield United shirt and that’s great for us and him.

“He’s doesn’t always catch the eye. He just goes about his job with very little fuss and maximum efficiency which is exactly what you want from someone in that position.

“We know he’s a good player. That’s why we brought him here.

“But he’s been very, very impressive of late.”

Harris started his career with Clyde before arriving at Bloomfield Road via Queen of the South.

The 27-year-old, who enjoyed a brief spell at Rangers youth academy before returning to Broadwood Stadium, has made 26 appearances for United this season and is expected to feature when Clough’s side host Southampton in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals next week.

With United also advancing to the third round of the FA Cup after beating Plymouth Argyle last weekend, Clough said: “It’s very unusual for a club from our division to still be in both of those competitions at this period.

“We know from experience that it can cause problems with the fixture calendar but that’s just something you’ve got to accept if you want to do well. That’s why, although consistency if important, there are going to be times when we might have to mix things around a little bit.

“We’re ready to do that if necessary.”
